OTP / 2FA
A one-time login code. An account sold without transferring or removing OTP/2FA can be reclaimed by its original owner after delivery.
OTP, or One-Time Password, is a security code generated for a single login session or transaction. It is often part of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), which requires a second verification step beyond a password. For buyers, purchasing accounts or digital goods that rely on OTP/2FA without the seller removing or transferring this second layer of security is extremely risky. The original owner can often reclaim the account using their OTP/2FA, rendering your purchase worthless and potentially leading to financial loss.
Sellers must understand that failing to properly remove or transfer OTP/2FA protections when selling an account or access can result in disputes and accusations of fraudulent sales. Always ensure that any purchased item is fully de-linked from the seller's authentication methods. If a seller refuses to provide or disable OTP/2FA on an account, consider this a major red flag and a strong indicator of potential scamming. This practice is critical for protecting your investment in digital-goods.
Purchasing a game account without the seller disabling OTP/2FA means they can easily log back in and reclaim it.
